New Exhibition On a Whim x Corendon: Who Defines Dutch Culture?

Following the success of the previous edition, Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, proudly presents a new exhibition in collaboration with On a Whim. This exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the question: Who defines what Dutch culture is? The exhibition is free to visit and runs from April 10 to July 10, 2025, on the first floor of the hotel.

Art Beyond Traditional Boundaries
On a Whim brings contemporary art to unexpected locations, such as the dynamic environment of the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The hotel serves as a vibrant meeting point for tourists, business travellers, and residents. Every three months, a new exhibition is presented, allowing art to enter direct dialogue with its surroundings and audience.

Who Defines Dutch Culture?
The current exhibition explores the layered nature of Dutch identity in a country shaped by global influences. By placing art in direct interaction with the environment and its viewers, the exhibition creates a space for questions to be raised, stories to be shared, and new perspectives to emerge.

Artists
Tom van Veen (NL, 1995): His work spans performance, painting, sculpture, narrative texts, and set design. Through the interplay of colours, he creates a vivid light that absorbs everything while simultaneously blurring certain tones. His practice is rooted in the theatrical aspect of tragedy, focusing on contemporary icons, collective memory, and the connections between them.

Rebecka Hultman (SE, 1995): Her work operates at the intersection of physical and digital objects, often analysed through humour and absurdity. From 3D modelling to site-specific installations, her practice is driven by a deep fascination with nostalgia and memory. This allows her to explore memorabilia, imagination, and our perception of reality, while simultaneously reflecting on and deconstructing ideas of adulthood and femininity.

Amber Schaafsma (NL, 1998): Her work explores the poetic elements of everyday life, capturing fleeting yet memorable moments. Through painting, video, and audio, she creates atmospheric representations of abandoned yet familiar spaces—bars, cinemas, and candle-lit tables. Her paintings often take shape on pieces of wood, with the texture emerging through layers of paint.
