Give back to the future

Our Mission

We’re all traveling the world. New places are being discovered, and the possibilities seem endless. A relaxing stay, far away or close to home, is becoming increasingly accessible for many. For the hotel industry, this means not only creating unforgettable experiences but also taking responsibility. Because while travel is enriching, it also leaves its mark: on the environment, on local communities, and on the destination as a whole.

At Corendon Hotels & Resorts, we believe that true hospitality goes beyond comfort and service. It also means caring for our planet, our people, and our communities. Our mission is to create hotel stays that contribute to local development, environmental conservation, and awareness among guests and employees. How do we do that? You can read all about it here.

Our Approach

Our sustainability policy is based on three core principles, derived from the Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) and in preparation for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD):

Orbisk-2

1. Strengthening Local Communities

We support local economies by collaborating with regional suppliers, facilitating cultural initiatives, and offering equitable opportunities to our employees. Some examples include:

  • Employee training programs
  • Partnerships with local entrepreneurs
  • Diversity and inclusion in the workplace

2. Towards a climate-neutral future

We are committed to lower CO₂ emissions by using energy-efficient technologies, purchasing green energy, and implementing smart building management systems. Curious how we do this? Read more here.

3. Circular Economy and Waste Reduction

We minimize our environmental impact by reducing waste, measuring food waste, and eliminating microplastics. A list of initiatives rolled out at several of our hotels:

  • Replacing individual packaging with bulk packaging for breakfast products, which reduces waste
  • Orbisk monitoring to combat food waste
  • Promoting tap water instead of plastic bottles
  • Plastic glasses have been replaced by glass and crockery in the rooms
  • Old hotel uniforms have been repurposed at schools in Gambia

We do this by committing ourselves to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
By integrating the so-called SDGs into our sustainability strategy, we actively contribute to a better and more sustainable future for everyone from our core activities.

At Corendon Hotels & Resorts, we focus on the following SDGs

Fair work and economic growth

Responsible consumption and production

Climate Action

Life below water

Life on land

Our sustainable mission in line with the SDGs

Tourism is one of the driving forces of global economic growth. By promoting fair work in the tourism industry, various groups are benefiting from this economic growth. We focus our policy on promoting sustainable tourism that creates jobs and supports and preserves local culture and production. That is how we introduced the Corendon Academy. A training and education program, at home and abroad, for young adults from the age of 18 who get work opportunities within our hotels, trained by our own people.

We are conscious of the things we buy and use. This concerns sustainable products and goods that we purchase for the hotels worldwide.

We pay close attention to our energy and water consumption, waste / waste management and ensure that this is done as efficiently as possible. Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and The College Hotel Amsterdam, Autograph Collection have the Green Key gold certification. Read more about our sustainable quality standards here.

We take measures to make conservation and sustainable use of oceans and seas at our destinations. For example, we look at more sustainable fishing and we try to protect coral reefs by making certain beaches inaccessible to tourists.

Restore ecosystems and preserve biodiversity. The emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases contributes to the greenhouse effect. This leads to climate change. To give back to the earth, we have been planting trees in Turkey since 2010, to prevent soil erosion, and to compensate for CO2 emissions, for example. We have planted 415,000 trees so far. In addition, we participate in the repair and cleaning up of mangroves in Curaçao. The soil was cleaned up in consultation with nature conservation organizations on the island, and manually removed from the street. Mangrove are large ecosystems that are very important for biodiversity, coastal protection, carbon capture, water treatment and tourism. The mangrove Habitats are under threat worldwide.

Together towards a better future

At Corendon Hotels & Resorts, we look ahead. Sustainability isn’t a final destination for us, but a continuous journey where innovation is central. We continue to search for innovative solutions that contribute to a smaller ecological footprint, a healthier living environment, and a future-proof hotel experience. That’s why we share our strategy with guests, partners, and employees to contribute to a sustainable future where hotel experience and care for the planet go hand in hand.
