Insight Drives Impact: Our Fight Against Food Waste

Each year, a staggering 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted worldwide, that’s one third of all food produced. To put it into perspective: that amount could feed the entire population of Europe. Shocking, isn’t it?

At Corendon Hotels & Resorts, we believe this issue cannot be ignored. Reducing food waste is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’re proud of our collaboration with Orbisk, a company specialized in smart technology to monitor and reduce food waste.

Thanks to Orbisk, we can now track exactly what kind of food, and how much of it, is being thrown away by scanning plates before they reach the bin. These insights help us make smarter purchasing and preparation decisions.

Our goal is ambitious: 20% less food waste. We started at Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and have since expanded the system to Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, and Mangrove Beach Corendon Curaçao All-Inclusive Resort, Curio by Hilton. Through a real-time dashboard, we can monitor our progress at each location daily and make adjustments when needed.

By better understanding what ends up as waste, we can align supply with demand more effectively. This not only reduces waste, but also minimizes our environmental footprint.

This collaboration is a key milestone in our journey toward a more sustainable future. With every scanned plate and every new insight, we move closer to a world where food waste is the exception—not the norm.
