Amsterdam, May 30, 2024 – Corendon Hotels & Resorts proudly announces the reopening of The College Hotel Amsterdam. During an intensive renovation period, 40 unique hotel rooms were created, and the design of the lobby was completely updated. Studio Piet Boon was responsible for the remarkable design, in which the history of the building is interwoven with contemporary luxury. The hotel is reopening its doors to Amsterdammers and guests from all over the world.

Historic Heritage with a Modern Twist
The boutique hotel is housed in a 19th-century building on Roelof Hartstraat in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. The monumental building opened in 1894 as a secondary school and continues to serve as a unique learning environment for students to this day. In 2005, the school building was transformed into a boutique hotel, and it is now part of Marriott Hotels’ luxury Autograph Collection.
Studio Piet Boon has intriguingly woven nostalgic elements into the new contemporary design. Observant guests will notice various elements reminiscent of bygone school days: reports, chalkboards, notebooks. Both the 40 hotel rooms and the reception, lobby, and corridors are now fully up-to-date.
Irene Valbusa, senior designer at Studio Piet Boon, stated, “From the moment guests step into The College Hotel, they feel the rich history of the building; full of references to the past and with an eye on the future, just like in a school.”

Festive Opening
The grand reopening was celebrated on May 29 with lively music, workshops, and delightful cocktails and dishes provided by restaurant Mondi. It was an unforgettable evening, marking the radiant new phase of The College Hotel.

Exemplary of the national architecture of the late 19th century, where neo-Renaissance and Gothic elements come together.
