On Monday, December 11th, 2017, we achieved the Green Key Gold quality mark, the highest attainable level for sustainability within the tourism and recreation sector for our Corendon City Hotel Amsterdam. On the homepage of ‘Sustainability’ you can read more about Green Key and what it means for hotels. On February 8th of 2018, we have physically received our certificate at the Krasnapolsky hotel in Amsterdam. We are very proud of this achievement!
What did we have to do for the certificate?
You do not get a Green Key Gold seal of approval easily, we have had to do a lot for this certificate. Together with a team of managers from various departments such as CSR, purchasing, HR, technical service and food & beverage, we have been busy preparing improvements for months.
We already do a lot in the area of sustainability & CSR but we wanted to do more. For example we wanted to launch a new webpage and communicate everything we do about sustainability better. Since 2017 we have been using sustainable energy from biomass from Amsterdam waste for all our Corendon Hotels & Resorts.
Already during the construction of the hotel in 2013, sustainability was a high priority for us. For example, only FSC wood has been used and we have taken measures to save energy and water. We use LED lighting throughout the hotel, we have energy-saving systems and water-saving showers and faucets.
In addition to all the measures that we have already taken during the construction of the hotel, sustainability is included in the purchase of our products as well. For example, we use FSC-certified and recycled paper at the office, cleaning agents that are less harmful to the environment and biodegradable objects instead of plastic. In our restaurant, we try to offer as many organic and vegetarian dishes on the menu as we can. By doing this, we reduce the environmental impact of our dishes.
